About Akshaya Patra
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an NGO in India working to eliminate classroom hunger by implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the government schools and government-aided schools. Akshaya Patra also aims at countering malnutrition and supporting the right to education of disadvantaged children.
Since 2000, Akshaya Patra has been concentrating its efforts towards providing fresh and nutritious meals to children on each school day. Their state-of-the-art kitchens have become a subject of study and have attracted curious visitors from around the world.
Their partnership with the Government of India along with the support from corporates, individual donors, and well-wishers have helped them grow from serving just 1,500 children in 5 schools in 2000 to serving 2 million children.
Today, Akshaya Patra is the world’s largest (not-for-profit run) Mid-Day Meal Programme serving wholesome food every school day to over 2 million children from 20,000+ schools across 14 states & 2 Union territory of India.
The School Sponsorship
Impact of School Sponsorships
Since its inception in 2016, The TAPF School Sponsorship Programme has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of school-children and their families, across India. The idea is simple – by nourishing impoverished children with a hot daily meal served at school, we have seen increased enrolment, attendance and focus at school. With a satisfied tummy and the right nutrients, recipients of the Midday Meal can better enjoy being children and flourish, breaking the cycle of poverty for generations. An outcome that has surpassed all expectations.
The Jansen Foundation sponsorship
The foundation is now sponsoring a school in Ajmer, Rajasthan an area where Paul’s family are from. The sponsorship will cover the yearly cost of feeding the 386 girls at the state run RAJANDRA PAHAD GAN school for a year. With nutrition being such an important factor towards efficient education we are really pleased to have undertaken this relationship and look forward to seeing the children flourish.
