EXPANSION OF THE JANSEN FOUNDATION SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

The Jansen Foundation - School Improvement Program

Having completed the first of our School Improvement Projects at the GGSSS Rajandra Pahadganj school in Ajmer we have now identified four other schools in the area in desperate need for improved facilities to give them the best conditions in which to study. With insufficient funding available from government these facilities would never get built without some external intervention and for such a relatively small outlay the benefit is obvious – increased attendance, sanitised facilities and improved education.

After visiting the schools we found they had either very basic or, in some cases, no usable toilets, hand washing facilities and sanitary towel incinerators for the pupils resulting in high levels of absenteeism, and subsequently a profoundly negative effect on educational achievement. It is self evident from the pictures below exactly how poor the conditions are at these schools and for a relatively small donation the effects of these improvements are enormous. It is also clear how easy it is to create clean, working facilities.

Having identified these additional schools in the Ajmer area, we are now looking to grow this program and install a further 13 toilets and a number of incinerators. It is shocking to see the lack of facilities afforded to these young children and you understand why absenteeism is so high in many educational establishments.

Work will commence soon and look forward to further expansion of this project.
